ALL REGIONS EVENT

This year TEN-80 hosted the 2008 All Regions 3 event competition, on the 7th and 8th of June.  The build up to the weekend went well with plenty of help form a number of experienced people.  Our thanks go to all of you who made this event possible.    Practise took place on Friday 6th with the main competition kicking off at 9am on the Saturday morning.  Conditions proved tough on the first day as the wind was up a little.  Having said that, the competitors from all 7 regions who entered, put on a fine display for all three events.  We started off with the team Slalom discipline where skiers were putting in some great scores and a couple of buoys were scored at 11.25 metres @ 58kph.  This round was pulled by our Ski Nautique 196 equipped with ‘Zero Off’ cruise control which was faultless through every pass.

As we moved into the team Figures event, another fine display of individual ability unfolded.  Midlands based James Earl (pictured) who trains at Thorpe and also at South Lakes Ski School put in an unbelievable score of 8010 points with no less than 5 flips and a great toe run for his second pass over the 200 metre course.

After a short lunch break the judges were ferried out to their positions and we then moved on to the team Jump event which saw our newly renovated ramp being used for the first time this season.  Respect goes out to young Arron Davies from the Northwest Region who landed a distance of 10.1 metres.  Jono Chilvers also overcame the anticipation of his first ever jump on the Saturday to applause from the onlooking crowd when he rode away.  Well Done!  As the ramp was raised to 1.65 metres we saw some fantastic distances scored considering the tail wind that varied over the afternoon.

Sunday started very warm with conditions far better than the previous day.  All the competitors knew the courses in the lake for the second day which was reflected in the scores coming through the radios back to the judge’s enclosure.  Many improved on their first day’s achievements especially in the Jump category with an awe inspiring longest distance of 47.8 metres.

Overall Team scores for the event were

1st        York and Humberside        2677.65 pts
2nd       West Midlands                    2390.70 pts
3rd        Eastern                                1693.93 pts
